Have you ever seen one of those one-man-band guys playing a park corner, and go to toss the guy some loose change but to only realize that there is no container awaiting your donation? This is a man who is playing for the pure joy of his on-lookers.
Those who showed up early enough to the Pour House on Friday night were able to see just that. The V-tones kicked off the night. Afterwards Mad Tea Party, a duo comprised of Ami Worthen on ukulele and Jason Krekel on juke-joint guitar, fiddle, and foot drums, played a unique version uke-abily meets rock-n-rock to a quaint crowd awaiting Snake Oil Medicine Show. Krekel stole the show with his one-man-band style of playing (at times, up to four instruments similtaniouly).
Not to be out done, Snake Oil Medicine Show promply unleashed their unmatched musical fussion of bluegrass and reggae. All the while artist Phil Cheney swaying and painting in time with the rhythm. A true melding of relationship among artist, musician, and crowd exist with both bands and if you missed them, don't fret! Catch them and all of their Asheville buds at the French Broad River Festival the first weekend in May.
